- Take the non-stick pan to be cleaned.

What non-stick pans are?
Non-stick pans are a type of kitchen appliances whose inner side is coated with a certain material to cook the food without sticking to the pan.
The coating material most commonly used is polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). It is also commonly known as Teflon.
Another coating material being used is a mixture of titanium and ceramic.
The Teflon coating is used due to its special properties like corrosion resistance and low resistance coefficient.
This coating gives a smooth, hard and non-sticky surface to the pans or other cookware.
Tips to give non-stick pans a long life
Keep the pans clean
It is a fact that keeping things clean enhances their life span.
The same is the case with all kitchen appliances, especially, in the case of non-stick cookware.
So never compromise on the cleanliness of your pans.

Avoid Using Dishwasher
Few pans are available in the markets that are labeled as dishwasher safe.
Always wash the non-stick pans by hand. This would enhance the life span of your pans.
Save the pan from harsh conditions
Use a soft cloth or sponge along with lukewarm water and dishwashing soap. Avoid using hot water.
Try to choose high-quality soap. Dishwashing soap when used with hot water can be harmful to the non-stick surface.
Avoid sudden temperature changes
Don’t wash the pan with cold water immediately after removing it from the stove. Instead, allow it to cool for some time and then wash it with lukewarm water.
Keep the pan dry
Make sure to dry the pan by using some soft cloth immediately after washing. This would help in keeping away the rust formation.
Scrub the Pan gently
In case of food residues present in the pan, soak the pan in lukewarm soapy water for a few minutes.
Scrub the pan gently with some soft material and then wash and dry it.
Use baking soda paste
You can use baking soda if burnt food is present in the bottom of the pan.
Take a small amount of water in the pan, add baking soda and make a paste by mixing.
Take the paste with the help of a sponge and gently scrub the inside of the pan and then wash the pan as usual.
Use low or medium flame to cook food when using non-stick pans.
High flam would increase the temperature of the pan and result in the destruction of the non-stick coating.
Moreover, at high temperature, the non-stick coating may react with food material making the food hazardous to health.
Spreading some sort of oil in the pan before use can prove helpful in protecting the non-stick coating of the pan.
Avoid using cooking spray
Stop using cooking spray in non-stick pans. Spray vegetable oil in the pan instead.
Cooking spray generally gets accumulated on the surface and results in disturbing the cooking process of food.
Removing the accumulated cooking spray from the pan without damaging the non-stick coating is another challenge.
So, replacing the cooking spray with cooking oil is not a bad idea.
Avoid using sharp-edged objects
Avid using metal or sharp-edged materials like forks, knives, etc in non-stick pans.
Such objects can cause scratches and damage the non-stick coating.
Use smooth objects made of wood or plastic when dealing with non-stick cookware.
Avoid refrigerating the food in a non-stick pan
Use the non-stick pans only for cooking purposes.
Don’t use them to store food in the refrigerator as the refrigerated food is difficult to remove from the non-stick pan.
While removing the refrigerated food from the non-stick pan you can damage the non-stick coating of the pan.
The same can happen in by sudden temperature change.
Ensure the seasoning of the pan after regular intervals
Non-stick coating can be damaged slightly by continuous usage over time. Seasoning the pan with oil can increase the life span of the pan.
Wet a soft cloth with oil and gently rub the inner side of the pan. Heat it in an oven at a low temperature for some time.
Allow to pan to cool and then clean it with a paper towel.
Prevent sudden temperature changes
Don’t put the cold and wet non-stick pan on a high flame or extremely hot pan under a cold water tap.
Sudden temperature changes can distort the shape of the pan leading to uneven cooking of food next time. Moreover, it can also damage the non-stick surface.
- Keep the non-stick pans at an appropriate distance.
- Place a paper towel inside the pan.
- Place them away from sharp-edged objects.
- Prefer hanging such pans.
- Ensure proper washing and complete drying of pans before storing them.
Is it Safe to use non-stick pans?
The currently available non-stick pans having Teflon coating are safe to use.
But in past, a specific chemical used in the production of Teflon has been known to cause kidney and liver diseases, high blood pressure, low birth weights in infants, etc.
